The global AI race is going strong, and Africa is one of the prominent contenders.

Just a snippet from the continent’s AI news. ~ The health care sector has developed numerous fascinating use cases. Intron Health, of Nigeria, has developed Africa’s first speech-to-text AI chat tool. This awe-mazing tool is capable of understanding over 200 African accents. TWO-HUNDRED different dialects!

This tool has gone on to help doctors 6X their clinical documenting speed, with over 1 million clips contributed by over 7,000 Africans across 13 countries.

Cutting edge AI tool can accurately identify cancer…so says The Guardian.

So…a team of medical professionals built an artificial intelligence model that can accurately identify cancer in a development they say could speed up diagnosis of disease and fast-track patients to treatment. Credit is due to Royal Marsden NHS foundation trust, the Institute of Cancer Research, London, and Imperial College London for designing this tool. The tool can identify whether abnormal growths found on CT scans are cancerous. On a scale of 0.5 to 1.0 with 1.0 being 100% accurate, the tool scored 0.87. It is on its way to being the most precise cancer fighting medical device yet. “According to these initial results, our model appears to identify cancerous large lung nodules accurately,” Hunter said. “Next, we plan to test the technology on patients with large lung nodules in clinic to see if it can accurately predict their risk of lung cancer.” Learn more about this story here https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/apr/30/artificial-intelligence-tool-identify-cancer-ai. ~Noirexury
